Our Y’s Inclement Weather Policy

The Attleboro Norton YMCA makes every effort to keep our building and services open during our regularly scheduled hours. However, all days won’t be sunny and bright, so we have adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy in the event of extreme weather conditions.

FACILITY CLOSINGS AND DELAYED OPENINGS

If the Y experiences a power outage or if weather conditions are such that it is unsafe for staff and members to get to the Y, the YMCA’s leadership staff will make a decision to close or delay opening by 4:00 a.m. on weekdays and by 6:00 a.m. on weekends. The YMCA’s voicemail and all other communications (see below) will reflect this decision.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS AND DELAYS

(Group Exercise Classes, Child Watch, Swim Lessons, Leagues, Youth Programs)

If the Attleboro Public Schools have a delayed opening:

• All programs and group exercise classes scheduled before noon are cancelled.
• Child Watch will delay opening in accordance with the school delay.

If the Attleboro Public Schools are closed for the day:

• All programs and group exercise classes scheduled before 3 p.m. are cancelled.
• Child Watch will not open for the morning shift.
• A decision about whether to run the afternoon and evening classes or open Child Watch for the evening hours will be made by 2 p.m.

If the Attleboro Public Schools have early dismissal due to weather:

• All programs and group exercise classes scheduled that evening are cancelled.

If the extreme weather occurs on a non-school day:

• The Y’s leadership staff will make a decision whether or not to cancel any programs by 4:00 a.m. during the week and by 6:00 a.m. on the weekend. The YMCA’s voicemail and all other communications (see below) will reflect this decision.

LICENSED CHILD CARE CANCELLATIONS AND DELAYS

(Infant, Toddler, Preschool, & School Age Care)

Child Care families will receive a communication from the Director about their program’s specific inclement weather plans.

INCLEMENT WEATHER COMMUNICATION

The Y will communicate any closings, cancellations or delays in the following ways:

• Phone: Call the Y at 508-222-7422. In the event of closings, a message will be left on the outgoing message by 4:15 a.m.
• Website: On the Y’s website, click the Facility Updates button for the latest info.
• Facebook: “Like” the Attleboro Y’s Facebook page for updates.
• Email: We will send out an email in the event of closings or delays.
• Mobile App: Get the Attleboro Y’s mobile app via Apple or GooglePlay and make sure that you enable push notifications. In the event of closings, you will receive a notification on your phone.

PLEASE NOTE: In the event of extended school closings over multiple days after a storm, the Y may decide to run programs according to our regular schedules. We will notify members when this occurs.
