The Attleboro Norton Y has a thriving community of active older adults who make the Y and physical activity an important part of their healthy lifestyle. Senior Meals

The Attleboro Norton YMCA is proud to offer free meals for seniors. The intent of this program is to support those seniors who struggle to have hot evening meals due to financial constraints, mobility constraints, health issues, and transportation issues.

Meals are available on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings. Register for a curbside pickup time slot or for at-home delivery. (For at-home delivery, meals will arrive 4:45-5:30 pm. At-home delivery only available to homes in Attleboro or Norton.) Please be sure to register each person who will need a meal, so we prepare the appropriate number of meals for you. Tai Chi for Seniors

Tai = big or great. Chi = ultimate energy. Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese exercise consisting of slow, beautiful, relaxed movements that develop a sense of balance and harmony between mind and body. Practicing tai chi can improve balance, stability, and flexibility for seniors.

We’re excited that Ed Poirier will now offer this great class to all senior members of the community at our new location – the Sweet Community House on Peck Street.

Each month, the Y hosts a variety of workshops and seminars for seniors in the community! Workshops all take place at the Sweet Community House, 44 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA.

    This year marks the 30th anniversary since the establishment of September as Healthy Aging Month, which offers an opportunity to reflect on how we incorporated habits like exercise, eating healthy food, and getting enough sleep into our daily routines. It is also an opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of staying active, as well as taking steps to improve our physical, social, and mental health.Date:  TBD

  • October – National Dental Hygiene Month
    National Dental Hygiene Month serves as a reminder to practice the daily habits that promote healthy teeth and gums. This is as importatn for older adults as it is for young children, particularly since good oral health is an important part of overall well-being. Chris Weylman, Elder Dental Program Coordinate at HopeHealth Comnmunity Visiting Nurse, will joing us for a discussion of what constitutes good oral hygiene, as well as key daily habits that promote healthy teeth and gums.Date:  TBD

  • November – National Diabetes Month
    Consider that while almost 30 million people in the U.S. have some form of diabetes, one in four don’t even realize they’re walking around with the disease. National Diabetes Month boosts awareness about the risk factor, symptoms, and types of diabetes. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2, or if you are considered pre-diabetic, hear the stories, check out the latest research, and learn how you can take steps on your journey to live a healthier life.Date:  TBD

  • December – Managing Holiday Grief
    The holidays are stressful enough when you are not grieving. If you have experienced a major loss, this holiday season will be different than the last, and whether you share your grief openly, or keep things to yourself, manaing your internal and external struggles will be less challenging once you master a few basic coping skills and plan how you want to approach the holidays. During this workshop, we will explore how you can manage the painful and mixed feelings that accompany grief, maintain your physical health, and explore how new and old traditions and rituals can support you during this tough time.Date:  TBD

To enroll in Senior Whole Health’s plan at the Y, please contact your insurance provider and confirm that you would like to use this benefit at the Attleboro Norton YMCA. They will provide you with the next steps to get started.

How to enroll in Renew Active:

To enroll in Renew Active at the Y, you will need to provide the Y’s Membership staff with your Renew Active Confirmation Code. To obtain your code, login to your UnitedHealthcare member website and go to Health & Wellness and look for Renew Active. For assistance, call the toll-free number on the back of your insurance membership card.

Walking Track Hours

With the weather about to turn cooler, the Y will begin opening the Pleasant Street Branch’s Indoor Walking Track for member use during select times.

Mondays & Wednesdays 4:00-6:00 PM
Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:00-11:00 AM

Pleasant Street Branch – Indoor Walking Track

Members will need to scan in and then can use the track area. Please note that the rest of the building is reserved for the Y’s Child Care programs, so members will only have access to the track.
