There’s something for every kid at the Y. They can meet new friends, build skills, develop interests and try new things in a supportive environment with caring adults. Our sports programs emphasize values, sportsmanship, friendship and most of all, fun!

Walk to 5K for Kids

Ages: 6 and up

This program will help aspiring runners get ready for the Y’s Gobble Wobble 5K, which is held on Thanksgiving morning. This 10-week program takes a walk-run approach to help young runners build endurance and confidence until they’re able to complete the full distance. The program meets once a week as a team with some individual workouts to complete at home. Parents are welcome to participate in the adult version of this program, which occurs at the same time. Soccer League

Ages: 4-9

Kids in the Y’s soccer program learn what it means to be part of a team. Early in the season, players focus on skills, such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. The remaining weeks include games where our young athletes use their skills and teamwork to work together and have fun. All players receive a team shirt.

Preschool Sports

Ages: 3-5

This class introduces children to a wide range of sports with a new sport to discover each week. Class will consist of age-appropriate drills and skills followed by a scrimmage. Sports include basketball, soccer, kickball, and more!

Youth Instructional Basketball

Ages: 5-11

This class introduces participants to the basics of basketball, including dribbling, shooting, and passing as well as basic game rules. Class time will be divided between drills and skills and a scrimmage.

The Y’s “Eclectic Karate” program combines the strengths of various disciplines to emphasize self-defense, control, positive attitude and spirit. Year-round program.

Floor Hockey

Ages: 6-12

This class uses the skills players already know and develops them. It will also allow new participants to learn the basics of floor hockey including puck handling, shooting, and passing as well as basic game rules. Class time will be divided between drills and skills as well as a scrimmage.

Recommended equipment: Stick and Gloves

Youth Cross-Country Meets

Ages: 6-17

Over the hill and through the woods! Take part in our one-mile cross-country races for beginners and advanced athletes at the Norton Outdoor Center. With so many trails and paths, our outdoor recreational facility can accommodate a different challenging course at each event. Registration and course review begins 30 minutes prior.

Jaguars Youth Track & Field Program

Ages: 6-18

Under the direction of the Jaguars coaching staff, youth athletes participate in running, shot put, javelin, long jump, high jump, and Cross Country. The program offers both parent and child fitness activities, including weekly fitness runs and walks. No mandatory practices or events. Come when you can!

September & October Jaguars Events

Tuesdays, September 3 & 10

  • 2-mile run: Meet at 4:30 pm at the Downtown Y Welcome Center for a 2 mile nonstop trail run. (You must be able to run a 9 minute per mile pace.)
  • Introduction to High Jump Clinics & Practices: A free event at the Downtown YMCA for anyone who’s ever thought they might like to try high jump. 5:00-5:30 pm clinic for new jumpers. 5:30-6:15 pm practice for all jumpers including those from intro clinic who are able to make it over the bar.

Tuesdays, September 17 & 24

  • Cross-country practice: 5:00-5:45 p.m. (rain or shine) at the Y’s Norton Outdoor Center, 295 West Main St., Norton, MA. These practices are free and open to the public.

Tuesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22

2019-2020 Indoor Season

Indoor Season dates: October 29-April 14
Athletes stay active throughout the winter months with running events, shot put, and high jump. Indoor season practices take place on Tuesday evenings at 5:00 p.m. at the Downtown Branch. Athletes also have the option of competing in indoor meets through the winter.

Member Fee: $35 per season
Non-Member Fee: $50 per season

Racquetball Lessons

Interested in learning how to play racquetball? Join us for instruction on basic skills and rules of the game. This program is designed for beginners as well as for those who are looking to get reacquainted with racquetball. After four to five lessons, you’ll be ready to play! Registration is required, but there is no fee to participate.
