“Thanks to the Y, my family has a great balance between what is healthy for each of us as individuals and together as a family. I don’t care how far I have to drive, this is my YMCA.”

“I love this YMCA,” says an exuberant Ioanna Mina. “I come here almost everyday with my two children, Myriam age 5 and Gavriel age 3.5.” Ioanna works out while her children spend time in Child Watch. It is not an easy drive Ioanna explains. She and her family live about 40 minutes away from the two Attleboro Y branches, but she prefers the ioanna-pic-for-websiteDowntown and Pleasant Street Y’s to any other facility in the region.

“I joined this Y in 2008 when my husband and I lived in Attleboro. In 2010 my husband’s job took us to Belgium.  When we came back to the states in 2014, we moved to a different town.  I missed the Attleboro Y.”

Laurie Osborne, Membership Director at the Attleboro YMCA, explains that she gave Ioanna a list of health and wellness facility options in a wide radius.  “I absolutely wanted Ioanna, Myriam and Gavriel to stay with us.  However, I thought if I was not honest about the options Ioanna had with the variety of health facilities closer to her home, that would be unfair.”  However, Ioanna decided to stay in Attleboro, and Laurie is thrilled.  “We cherish all our members, and when they leave I am always heartbroken,”  says Laurie.

Ioanna trained to be a Body Pump instructor and taught her first class in July. The children have participated in swim lessons as well as gymnastics. Myriam will be old enough to attend camp in the summer of 2017 giving the little girl even more opportunity to meet new friends.

“As a material science engineer, I worked long hours, and was busy all the time. When I began staying home with the children, I knew it was the right thing to do, but also knew I needed to make sure I did something for myself to stay healthy in spirit, mind and body, and not feel isolated and alone. I urge women who have worked and are now staying home to make sure to do something for themselves. The Y gives me a place to belong, a place to connect with other adults, and offers my children the opportunity to socialize with their peers. Child Watch is part of my family membership. So, I come to workout, and the kids get to play.”

“Thanks to the Y,” says Ioanna, “my family has a great balance between what is healthy for each of us as individuals and together as a family.  I don’t care how far I have to drive, this is my YMCA.”
